Weekly Round up – WC 28th September 2020

This Past Week….

Tuesday night saw a very well attended social night. 28 people in total took part in the Tuesday night social. Our best uptake since restrictions were lifted and a really positive sign that the club is moving in the right direction. Massive thank you to all the run leaders, Joanne Howett for organising them all and of course, all the people who dragged themselves out to partake in some lovely social running.

Tim and Amy ascending towards Wingfield Manor Tuesday night

Group 1 saw a steady 3 miles off road led by Mike and Amy starting from Lower Hartshay. Group 2 undertook speed sessions on the Greenway orchestrated by Bunda and Ian Warton-Woods. Group 3 saw a 6 mile road group heading out starting from Swanwick, led by Jo and Fran Howett. A last minute addition saw a 1 hour steady off road group set off from Fritchley, led by Mick and Matt. Making it back to the cars before dark, ending the evening with a very well deserved, albeit expensive pint, from the Black Swan in Crich.

Ripley Runners Race Round-up

Despite the Virtual London Marathon taking place on Sunday. This weekend saw a much quieter weekend for Ripley Runners as a whole. However, some hardy competitors still managed to get themselves out there and enjoy some racing of various sorts (all race information taken from Strava).

Amy Bradley at the finish line

Most notably, Amy Bradley managed to drive all the way to the Lake District and conquer the Lakeland Trails Marathon. Take that Kipchogie!! Amy conquered the 26.19 mile route in 5 hours 10 minutes after tackling a total of 2,938ft. of ascent on route. Well done Amy.

Greg Bayliss did take on the Virtual London Marathon and finished in a good time of 3 hours 28 minutes. Well done Greg.

Richard West also took on an event at Elvington airfield. A distance of 6.27 miles in a total time of 38 minutes and 29 seconds. Someone had their Weetabix! Well done Richard.

Whilst there wasn’t an abundance of Ripley Runners enjoying various events (mainly due to Covid-19) over the weekend, there did seem to be a lot of people out and about doing various personal runs. Well done to all and keep up the good work.

This week the club will be mainly running……..

Tuesday night sessions have been announced and once again it looks like a good one.. If you are interested, just get in touch with Jo (or the club) and get involved.

Get involved with the virtual handicap. Starting at the Leisure centre, you run down hill to Marehay, up Street Lane, back into Ripley and finish at the Leisure Centre. Around 5.5 miles in distance, you go as fast as you can and post a time on Strava titled Ripley Runners Handicap and send your result to Joanne Howett on Facebook. Then sit back and await the results. You have until the 11th October to get your finger out.

Ending on sad news I’m afraid this week; it appears the Wales weekend will be cancelled due to Covid-19 taking it’s toll across Wales. Whilst the Wales weekend is cancelled, keep your eyes peeled for updates on Facebook as more than likely, some events will be taking place over that weekend, albeit closer to home. Possibly the Peak District.. Watch this space!
